Cyanocobalamine

Hydroxocobalamin

Methylcobalamin

Adenosylcobalamin

The name of all these different chemical forms is b12, but the process required for the body to make these vitamins available is very different for each. The forms that can be used actively are methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin.

Cyanocobalamine is the most synthetic and also the most prescribed form, it is difficult to turn into active, it should be the last choice in b12 deficiency. Unfortunately, many multivitamins and vitamin B contain this form. You even go to have a B12 needle every week, but you get a substance containing cyanide in your body.

The bioavailability of hydroxocobalamin is better than cyanocobalamin, it is easier to convert to the active form methylcobalamin, it is preferred in smokers for cyanide exposure.

Adenosylcobalamin especially in mitochondria; is very important in the production of the myelin sheath surrounding neurons in the energy system and central nervous system, it is one of the most important forms in neurodegenerative diseases.

Methylcobalamin is the most important form, it is the indispensable form of the intracellular vital process called methylation, keep it from fighting infections, plays an active role in thyroid functions, heavy metal detox, and almost all psychiatric diseases. (It is the first choice for diseases such as autism).

When you take a B12 test, the level of B12 measured in the blood is predominantly inactive forms, the homocysteine level in the blood should be checked to determine the adequacy of the active forms. If it is high, we should suspect a B12 deficiency.

So what is Methylation?

Methylation Cycle

It makes DNA regulation (activation/inactivation), which is our genetic codes, through methylation, the cleaning of some hormones and the wastes that occur in our body is supported, it plays an important role in the production of ATP, one of our main energy sources, inflammation occurring in the body (inflammation that causes chronic diseases when it takes a long time) system response) and healthy methylation causes a low level of an amino acid (the smallest building block of proteins) called homocysteine, which can cause damage to blood vessels.

Stressful life, nutrition with inadequate and refuse foods (processed, added intense additives) (in this case, the absorption of important vitamins (especially B and C) and minerals (zinc, iron, selenium, etc.) is impaired) and toxins (heavy metals, alcohol, cigarettes, etc.), certain medications (antacids, metformin, birth control pills, etc.) are known to be directly related to the increase of free radicals (i.e. increased oxidation (rust) in the body) and high homocysteine level.

Methylation disorder also affects many mechanisms. Some autoimmune diseases, anemia, nerve conduction disorders, cancer, autism, psychiatric disorders progressing with behavior and thinking disorders, and hormone imbalances are just a few of the diseases that can occur due to methylation disorder. When the homocysteine level increases; A development called “foggy brain”, which is characterized by “forgetfulness, loss of concentration and confusion”, comes into play. The production of DNA and RNA is deteriorating. Genetic structuring is under threat. The production of many enzymes, hormones (serotonin, dopamine, epinephrine), and vital substances are disrupted.
